Homebound Delivery Day

Library items may be delivered to patrons who reside in nursing homes or assisted living facilities, or  to those who are confined to their  homes because of a medical condition that prevents them from coming to the library.

Librarians can enroll patrons for Talking Books and Audio-Readers for the visually impaired. Forms may be picked up at the library.

Do you  knit or crochet or do other handwork? It’s lots more fun when you’re doing it with friends. Learn a new stitch, watch a video or get help with a problem or just visit a while. We make purple hats for babies as part of the Purple Hats for Babies/Shaken Baby Syndrome program. We’ve also make red hats for babies as part of the Little Hats Big Hearts program. Bring a friend to Sheep on a Stick. Cookies welcome!

Join the Independence Public Library each month for an evening just for ladies. It’s Sex in the City, meets Crafts in the Stacks. Enjoy good company, great food, and fabulous crafts. This class will teach you how to create marketable crafts while indulging in conversation, appetizers, and wine. This evening is designed to be fun, creative, and carefree. Sign-up is required for this event, and a fee of $5 to cover the cost of materials. Sign-up by calling the library at 620.331.3030 or email brandon@iplks.org.

Current members and prospective members are invited to attend our twice monthly toastmasters meetings on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at noon.

Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Headquartered in Englewood, Colo., the organization’s membership exceeds 357,000 in more than 16,600 clubs in 143 countries. Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people from diverse backgrounds become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders.
