Why Donate?
Your commitment of a gift to the Independence Public Library is the strongest statement of support that you can make for the Library. As one of the cornerstones and critical indicators of a democratic society, the Library benefits community members with the information they need to live informed lives; free to read, listen, and view, and become engaged citizens. With circulation rates increasing among patrons and the library, now more than ever, we need your help.
Memorials and Monetary Donations
In a world of tightening budgets and growing need, the Independence Public Library is increasingly important to our community. Traditional library funding is not sufficient to meet our mission.
It is an honor when members of the community think of us to memorialize their loved ones. The Independence Public Library greatly appreciates monetary donations of any size. The library has a donor recognition wall with Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels for larger donations. The library has the loved ones name engraved on the nameplates and permanently installed on the wall. Another option, for a monetary donation, is for the library to purchase books which a loved one would have enjoyed and attach a nameplate in honor of the loved one.
If you would like to make a monetary donation to the library, please make checks payable to “The Friends of the Independence Public Library” and either mail them or bring them to the Front Desk. The address is at the bottom of the page. You may also donate to the Friends by clicking on the DONATE NOW button. We would love to work with you to find the best way to honor the memory of your family or friend.
Prizes or Supplies for Events
Corporations, small business owners or individual patrons often answer our call for event prizes, supplies or use of their special talents. If you would like to be on our email list, contact library@3.128.115.212. We would love to expand our family of people we can depend upon for help.
Please contact Charlene Mitchell, IPL’s Children’s Librarian for current craft needs.
Gently Used Books, Games or Puzzles
Our Book Store brings in thousands of dollars each year to the library and we could not do it without your donations! Please bring your books to the front desk or arrange with the front desk staff for large amounts of books to be brought in through the staff entrance. Also, our patrons love to play board games and put puzzles together. Just bring complete items to the front desk.
Do us favor and check all donated items for mold, water-damage or missing pieces. Mold is a serious health risk to our staff and no one likes to get to the end of the puzzle and have a piece missing!
