Within the Library
The library sells donated and discarded books at our bookstore located in an alcove to the right of the entrance. We use the funds to support the activities of the library. The hours are the same as the Library. Items may be purchased at the Circulation Desk.

The library has a color printer, scanner, black and white copier, color copier and a fax machine available for use at the library. For prices see our Equipment Use policy.
The Independence Public Library offers a genealogy collection and research services. The collection consists of books, microfiche and online research databases. Please see our Research It page for more information or stop by the library for help with all of your research needs.
The library offers free help with homework after school. We have books, magazines, reference materials, online databases, free wi-fi, computers and in-person assistance.

The Independence Public Library offers one-on-one technology assistance for minor help with computers, cell phones and tablets. Please make an appointment by calling the library at 620.331.3030. The library has the following technology equipment available for use within the library:

The Library staff are available for presentations about events or materials available at the library or other areas of expertise on the part of library staff. Please contact the library at 620.331,3030 to ask if someone is available on the date needed.
The Children’s Librarian is available to do storytimes at pre-schools and other community activities as time allows. Please contact the library at 620.331.3030 and ask for the Children’s Librarian for more information on the program. Also, there is storytime in the library. Please see our calendar for the date and times.
Collections for Use by the Public
Free borrowing (or interlibrary loan) of magazine or journal articles, books, DVDs, and other library materials is available with a library card. Materials may be placed on hold from home or within the library. If you need assistance with this or any other library services, the library staff is available to help.
The Library has both regular and large print books available for check out with a library card. Also, on the second floor there are sets of books available for book clubs to check out.
The Library has many types of games available for use within the library. There are toys, puzzles, a Virtual Reality system, a telescope, coloring pages and many other forms of entertainment. We also have video games available for check out with a library card.
For the people who ride their bicycles to the library, we have bike locks available for check out from the front desk. It is advisable to always lock a bike up when left outside the library. Scooters and skateboards may be left behind the front desk for safe-keeping while in the library.

For all of the latest DVDs or even favorites from the past, come check out our DVD collection. We have movies, documentaries, TV shows and exercise videos for free checkout with a library card.

Exercise DVDs are available for check out with a library card. We offer a free two-week access to Cornerstone Family Fitness with a library card, limited to availability. The following exercise equipment is also available for checkout with a library card:
